In case you’ve been wondering where I’ve been lately (I know – it’s been keeping you up nights, hasn’t it?), I’ve been getting my second book ready to send to the publisher. I LOVE the cover illustration, but the trouble is, I can’t decide what color my title text should be – blue or purple. What do you guys think? (Actual cover visuals follow!)
Here are the choices:
I could really use some help deciding – I’ve asked 22 people so far, and it’s a 50/50 split – very democratic and all that, but not terribly helpful… If you could weigh in in the comments section, I’d be really grateful.
Thanks for playing!
(By the way, the book should be available by mid-August…)

Blue… Definitely like the blue better
Blue…the purple looks pink on my screen.
Blue…as much as I love purple….I have to say blue looks the best
Blue sets a much darker, ominous tone… the light purple looks as if it is a woman’s romance novel (soft porn) …is there a love story tie in???… the purple jumps a lot more but you lose the art as well (I guess I dont like the balance), so I think it depends on what you are trying to say to the audience… if you want me to art direct —they may want to darken the top more, so it matches the depth of the tone behind your name on Meeting Murder’s cover…
So, I say Blue.
Wow, Mike – soft porn? Where is YOUR mind???
Thanks for the input… and yes, there is a bit of a “relationship” story – had to write my first “love scene,” which was all kinds of awkward…
Purple….screams out at me.
I like the purple!
I vote for Blue!!
I’m thinking blue….
Blue, with each letter getting a shade darker, implying that the stroy gets darker/mysterious as you read
Allison and I both pick purple/pink. It shows up pinkish on my computer. Good Luck !!!! Can’t wait
Purple’s perfect! Maybe just a bit darker…Dark purple…
Blue- Guys won’t read books with pink/purple covers.
Interesting insight – would you believe that the first 10 guys I asked all said purple, while the first 10 women all said blue? True!
I actually like the pink, it pops. Goes nicely with the avant-garde font choice. Only thing that I wonder is if the story has a strong/featured main female character to warrant the color. While I do like the pink, it otherwise does suggest the book has a more feminine readership in nature.
Interesting that you call it “pink” – it’s actually purple, but shows up as pink on certain monitors. And yes, the book’s main character is female – and there’s even a romance subplot. No bodice-ripping, though!
i definitely like blue better!
I still say blue…
I say the blue. Agree with Mike above that it sets a darker tone to go with the “Darkness” title. I’ll leave the balance of his comment without remark!
If you’re looking for the color to pop, I vote purple. The blue blends in better, but the purple stands out.
Blue!
Blue
blue… somehow “meeting darkness” in pink has a weird feel… ?
I did go with blue – the purple showed up as pink on too many peoples’ screens, and that wouldn’t convey the atomsphere I’m looking for. The blue looks great.
The Purple/Pink jumps out and the blue is soft/subtle. I would think you would want the book to jump out as people are scanning shelves!
Oops – went with blue, Bridy!
Rob and I both think blue… It is a “cold” color and blends with the cover art. I do like LuAnn’s suggenstion of getting progressively darker…or have “Darkness” have a shadow. Unless, of course, you want the text to have symmetry…
